Current R&D/S&T Activities

In a broader perspective our primary research interest is to assess the impact of nano-materials, food additives and adulterants on the immune system. Recently, European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) has included our study in its 2014 report "Reconsideration of the temporary ADI and refined exposure assessment for Sunset Yellow FCF (E110). Major thrust areas of interest where our group focuses are:-

  • Our research efforts in the area of nanotoxicology have focussed on the impact of nanoparticles on the macrophage responses, receptors employed for particle recognition, the endocytic pathways involved in particle uptake & intracellular trafficking, and the consequential cell signalling response against the toxic insult.
  • Mechanistic dissection of the signalling pathways involved in skin carcinogenesis (cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma) to tap the therapeutic targets for skin cancer and making headway to evolve nove      molecules with potent anti-cancer activity
  •  Food allergy is a major public health concern globally for which there is no cure. Our group aims to uncover the regulatory factors and mechanistic interactions of innate immunity and T-cell sub populations involved during the initial sensitization and advanced phases of the allergy. Based on the knowledge gaps addressed through these studies, we aim to project novel intervention strategies.
